IslandSon ministries evolved from what we realize now was a God inspired meeting during an annual vacation - to semi-annual missions trips - to a full time ministry. With the overwhelming support of the leaders and congregation of the Richmond Alliance Church, in November 2008 Elsie and I were allowed to deliver Bibles and show the Jesus film to a grade one class in a rural Jamaican school. During a subsequent visit in April 2009, a group of six Christians from RAC were given the opportunity to spend three days at the same school and run a Vacation Bible School program for two primary classes, spend time with the grade nine students and give out bibles. November 2009 saw a group of 14, made up of several youth and members of RAC and two other churches, attend Mount Grace Primary and Junior High School in Burnt Savannah Jamaica for six days. During this time we were given unlimited access to all classes and grades. We were blessed to share the Gospel freely with each of the 540 students and teachers through VBS, programs for the teen girls, and work experience for the teen boys. Thanks to the generosity of the people of RAC and others we have delivered over 2,000 lbs of school supplies, including tools for an industrial arts program, books, electronic equipment, office supplies, and money to help with funding of an agricultural course; but above all, we have shared the love of Jesus Christ and the gift of Salvation.
The Chairman of the Board of Education visited our last day at the school in November to thank the team and ask us to please continue with the ministry we had begun. His words echoed our own “If we make a difference in one child’s life, it is worth all the effort”
“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over the ninety-nine who do not need to repent”. Luke 15:7.
The Member of Parliament for that district has also shown interest in what has been taking place and also expressed his willingness to help in any way he can.
When we realized both the great need and the support we have from within Jamaica, it became clear to us that if we could do this for one school we could do it for more. We have begun working with the full blessing and co-operation of the Board of Education to identify other schools that would benefit from a program like the one at Mount Grace. Our goal is to facilitate an “Adopt a School" project, matching schools like Mount Grace with Christian organizations from Canada. The business proposal that will be used to facilitate this program is being written at this time. We pray that Richmond Alliance Church will continue it’s ministry at Mount Grace School and we will strive to bring at least two missions teams to this school each year.
We will be initiating other projects in the community of Cave Valley such as a morning break style program for the women and a home group for couples so we can begin to minister to the families in the area. Please pray for us as we seek God's direction in these endeavors.
Thank you, Frank
